The beautiful old bungalow that Hemingway’s Bar & Restaurant occupies was originally built more than 90 years ago in the early 1920’s using very rare golden teak. At that time, the Prakanong Canal ran beside the house.

The bungalow was later acquired by The Siamese Ambassador to Laos in the 1930s, the son of King Rama VIII’s Royal Guardian. Since then, it has been home to several foreign ambassadors to Siam including the French ambassador in the 1940s. And now it’s the home of Hemingway’s Bar & Restaurant and we are all the better for it.

The owner’s felt that since no icon personifies the classic 1920’s era more than the famous Ernest Hemingway, they decided to name the place after him.

Hemingway is arguably one of last century’s greatest characters. He travelled to some of the world’s most interesting and exotic places and personified the “real” man. Hard drinking and living life to the fullest.

This living definition of a ‘real man’ ran with the bulls in Pamplona and hunted rhinos on the Serengeti. From being famously wounded in WWI to fighting for democracy in the Spanish Civil War in the 1936, he rarely did any of this without a drink in hand, somehow never spilling a drop. Oh, and he wrote a few books along the way.

Hemingway’s legend lives on at the Hemingway’s Bar & Restaurant, making this the perfect place for alpha males to hang out and have a party or an event.
