Sarang Paloh Event Hall is housed in the OVERSEA BUILDING, now gazetted as a heritage building. Its dramatic high ceilings and antique pre war glass tiles are unparalleled and combined with its strategic location is perfect for exclusive parties, product launches, high-profile business meetings, seminars or conferences.

The name Sarang Paloh is a tribute to the history of the town and its people. Ipoh used to be known as “Paloh”. The origin of this name is a symbolic reference to the dams that were constructed along the Kinta River for fishing purposes. These dams were referred to as “Pa-Lo” in the Cantonese dialect and by and by the area was famously known as Paloh. “Sarang” on the other hand, means nest in Bahasa Malaysia, which also symbolises a place of rest.

Formerly being the first Chinese bank in Perak (Bank of Malaya) and subsequently bought over by the Oversea Banking Chinese Corporation (OCBC), the building has withstood the test of time and fire, surviving the World War II. This iconic building is a testament to the wealth derived from tin mining of the local Chinese tycoons. Its Art Deco façade is unique and true to a time of great affluence.

The buildings are also considered architecturally significant as it is made up of three buildings connected side by side. Looking at other heritage buildings, you will find most to be connected back to back.

Founded in 2014, the owners have put in a careful consideration into the materials and methods to restore the building back to its former glory.

Sarang Paloh are strategically located on the historically significant Hugh Low Street (now Jalan Sultan Iskandar) about 600 m away from the Ipoh Train Station (super near!) and 15 minutes drive away from the Sultan Azlan Shah International Airport.
