James Brooke Bistro

James Brooke Bistro is a bistro and event venue, set on Kuching’s scenic waterfront by the great Sarawak River. The bistro is named after Sir James Brooke, a Briton who came to Sarawak in the 1800s and played a major role in Sarawak’s past by serving as the first White Rajah of Sarawak. True to the historical heritage of Sarawak, James Brooke Bistro serves Western dishes such as Beef Stroganoff, Spaghetti Bolognaise and even adding personal touches to make signature dishes such as the White Rajah Grilled Fish and Brooke Family Grilled Chicken. Local delicacies such as the famous Sarawak Laksa, Wild Borneo Laksa and many others can also be found on the menu. Hot and cold drinks are served here, as well as desserts such as delectable cakes to wrap up a hearty meal.

Event Venue

James Brooke Bistro has an interior design that is reminiscent of colonial times. Featuring an open air concept, customers may choose to sit either indoors, or outdoors. One side of the restaurant faces the Sarawak River and is a sight to behold, especially in the evening, as the sun sets. The furniture here is made from hardwood timber and has a dark brown hue to its lacquered surface. The decor is mostly of local origin such as wooden carvings and antique pots. As an added cultural element, a strip of beautiful cloth is laid on every table on top of the table cloths which are cloths designed by the indigenous folk of Sarawak. Air conditioning is not available here, but fans are abundant around the restaurant.

Events

James Brooke Bistro is a great place for casual and business events such as birthday party, corporate dinner, product launch, reunion dinner, anniversary dinner and many others. Private events held here can accommodate up to 150 pax.

Location

James Brooke Bistro is strategically located on Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman, right alongside the Sarawak River. Street parking is available close to the bistro.
