The name ‘Basaga’ is derived from the many Saga trees which bear little red seeds, ‘buah saga’, found around the compound. Built during the reign of the second White Rajah of Sarawak and sold to a Scottish doctor in the mid-1950s, the event space has typical post-war colonial architecture as found throughout Malaysia and Singapore. The hotel features car and bicycle rentals, airport shuttle and laundry services.

Basaga Holiday Residences is limited to a total of 33 air-conditioned rooms that are spacious, clean and tastefully furnished with a host of modern amenities.†Set in lush surroundings, all room types come with a choice of single or double beds, flat screen TV, free WiFi, en-suite bathrooms and is serviced daily by cheerful and friendly housekeeping staff. The biggest rooms are the Verandah Rooms which are located on the second floor with a fantastic view overlooking the surrounding gardens of the pool and spa areas. It is a favourite choice to unwind and enjoy the cool breeze in the evenings. The Basaga Suite is a stand-alone chalet ideal for families and has a large open living area.
