VCR Cafe

It seems that it’s not just enough to open a hipster cafe in Kuala Lumpur now. Now you must open it with style. And we gotta say that VCR Cafe does have a lot retro style and charm. VCR Cafe is located on Jalan Galloway, the Galloway name a throwback to Malaysia’s colonial past. Being just a short distance from the now demolished Pudu Jail, it’s said that many wardens used to stay on this road. Hence the road became known as Gallow way and then shortened to Galloway. Like the buildings on Sekeping Sin Chew Kee on Jalan Sin Chew Kee, which is just on the next road, the architecture of buildings on this road go back to the 1920’s. One of Kuala Lumpur’s last remaining Heritage Row buildings.

Event Venue

Like we said earlier, VCR Cafe is full of retro charm being housed in a building that traces it origin to 1927. The high ceilings, overhead wooden beams on the roof, metal doors on the toilets are an architectural developments of days gone by. While we like our modern trappings, we also appreciate the design style of yesteryears. VCR Cafe occupies a two storey building and the second floor could be an ideal event venue for having a party for about 50 people. Beyond that, it might just be too cramped. VCR Cafe has also proven to be a popular location for photo shoots.

Location

Jalan Galloway is located just behind the Swiss Garden Hotel on Jalan Pudu. It’s actually quite easy to access it, especially since the building of the Jalan Pudu underpass. While parking on Jalan Galloway is very limited, VCR Cafe has made parking arrangements with Swiss Garden. Parking fees are RM2 for the first 2 hours with a subsequent fee of RM1 every hour after. Remember to get a chop from VCR Cafe to get your parking fee discount.
