Speedy Grandma, Art Gallery
With a name like Speedy Grandma, this place immediately conjures up images of eclecticism. In fact the name comes from an urban ghost legend. Apparently an elderly lady was cut in half by a string while riding her motorbike down a small street. The urban legend of that is that if you ride down that same street too fast, you will see the lady’s body crawling after your motorbike in your wing mirror. Interesting story to give birth to the Speedy Grandma gallery, don’t you think?
Speedy Grandma was created as an event venue for emerging artist in Thailand by Lee Anantawat and Thomas Menard. Their aim to put up the gallery was to encourage emerging artists, regardless whether they are Thai or International. Speedy Grandma sets out to promote any kind of contemporary art, urban art, pop art, surrealism, materialist, comics, illustration, graphic design and even typography. Speedy Grandma also has a selection of collectible, prints, art books, and object dug out from flea market in their shop.
And to keep guests at Speedy Grandma well hydrated, they equipped the gallery with a bar as well. Speedy Grandma has played hosts to many art shows, mini concerts, some very talked about opening parties, and artistic inspired events. Check this place out for something that’s quite a bit different.
