The Mugshot Cafe is an old shophouse turned hipster cafe event space in the bustling heart of Georgetown heritage area, most acclaimed for their homemade bagels and yoghurt. The bagel muffins come in various fillings such as corned beef and rocket, turkey ham and cranberry sauce, or the all-time favourite smoked salmon and cream cheese. All bagels are topped with sesame or poppy seeds, then toasted in a traditional wood-fire oven before being served on the table. Besides their signature bagels and yoghurt, The Mugshot Cafe has a pork-free menu serving a variety of pasta, fresh coffee, hand-crafted juices, and cakes throughout the day.

Event Space

The Mugshot Cafe uses Western modern industrial elements in its design, like wood and metal, while retaining some of its Asian vintage charm and retro vibes, such as the old tiles on the walls. The cafe’s most eye-catching display would be the almost life-size wooden pterosaur skeleton hanging from its ceiling. The budgeted beginnings of The Mugshot Cafe shaped its aesthetic, some of the furniture were built by hand using scrap wood and pallets, creating an earthy and rustic tone to its interior. There are a few tables placed on the five-foot way of the shophouse for outdoor seating, allowing people to sit on the sidewalk and watch the world go by. Indoor seating is available around the barista counter and at the back area, where bigger groups can gather or take a mugshot at the photoshoot corner of the cafe.

Events

Apart from being a cosy hangout spot for casual meet-ups and gatherings among family and friends, the Mugshot Cafe is a suitable venue for hosting events such as a birthday party, a tea party, and small-scale corporate events up to a maximum of 50 pax.

Location

The Mugshot Cafe is located on Chulia Street in Georgetown, Penang’s nighttime hawker hotspot in the heritage area. Just within a few minutes of walking distance from Love Lane, the cafe is accessible by both car and bus. Public street parking is available around the area, and ground level access makes it a handicap-friendly venue as well.
